If this is your first time here, welcome! This is a private search box that you can use to interface with Google, DuckDuckGo, Bing, Perplexity or any search engine of your own if you really want. No data is sent to magmabow.com. Data is only saved locally, so it will not transfer across devices or browsers.

If this is not your first time, your config settings may not have been saved. Drag and drop your exported settings file anywhere on this popup to restore it.

You can search for stuff using the main text input box. e.g. Japan Wikipedia. By default it will search with Google. Press Enter to go, or Esc to clear the box. Everything else is set up from the gear icon in the top-right corner. You can reopen this guide at any time with the Help button at the bottom of the settings menu.

Searching

• Search engine. Pick Google, DuckDuckGo, Bing, Perplexity or your own URL in Settings, under Search. A query prefix or postfix can be added to every search.
• Direct links. Typing a web address, IP address or localhost (like wikipedia.org or 192.168.1.1:8080) opens it straight away instead of searching. This can be turned off.
• Autocomplete sites. Save sites under Search and they appear as grey text while you type. Press → or click the box to fill it in, then Enter to open. Turn on "Auto-enter on URL autocomplete" under Search to open it as soon as you press →.
• Google Lens. Drop an image anywhere on the page to search for it with Google Lens in a new tab. Dropped image files are uploaded to Google. This can be turned off under Search.

Quick answers

• Calculator. Type a sum such as (3+4)*2^3, sqrt(2) or 2pi and the answer appears below the box. Click it to copy. It handles + - * / % ^, brackets, multiplying by writing things side by side (2pi, 3(4+1)), sqrt sin cos tan asin acos atan log ln abs exp (angles in radians, or degrees if you turn on Use degrees under Maths; arcsin, arccos and arctan also work), degtorad / dtr and radtodeg / rtd to convert between degrees and radians (e.g. rtd(atan(50))), pi, e and shorthand numbers like 4.7k or 1e-3 (see below). log(x, base) and sqrt(x, n) take a second number for the base or the root. % is the remainder (modulo), so 17%5 is 2, and mod(17, 5) does the same; the answer takes the sign of the second number, so -7%3 is 2. Ending with = forces an answer, so 10000= converts a plain number to the chosen output format. To get that on every input without typing =, turn on Force incomplete answers under Maths. Ctrl + ↑ / ↓ cycles the output format, or choose one under Maths. Precision mode (also under Maths) shows the full answer; turn it off to round answers to 3 significant figures. The calculator can be switched off there too. Long answers are shown in groups of three digits (copying gives the plain number), which can be turned off there too.
• Number shorthand. You don't need to type out long numbers. A prefix letter straight after a number scales it, so 2k is 2,000, 5n is 0.000000005, 4.7k is 4,700 and 2.4G is 2,400,000,000. Supported prefixes are Y Z E P T G M k m u n p f a z y (u or µ for micro, and K also works for kilo). They are case sensitive, so M is mega (10⁶) but m is milli (10^-3). Scientific notation works as well: 10e5 is 1,000,000 and 1.5e-3 is 0.0015. Both can be used anywhere in a sum, like 2k * 4.7n or (10e5 + 2.4G) / 3. Leave no space between the number and its prefix.
• Greek letters. Type alpha for α, ALPHA for Α, ohm for Ω, or micro for μ. This can be turned off under Results.
• Custom outputs. Under Results, add your own input and output pairs. They are case sensitive.
• Notepad log. Press Ctrl + Enter instead of Enter to add what you typed to the notepad as a new line, with its answer if one is showing (like (3+4)*2 = 14). The notepad must be switched on and not hidden by the privacy cover.

Bookmarks

• Add a name and link under Bookmarks and they show as buttons below the search box. Drag them on the page to reorder, and middle-click or right-click one to open it in a new tab.

Customise

• Page elements. The logo, clock, date and notepad can each be switched on or off, resized and moved up or down. Click the clock to turn it into a count-up timer that starts from zero, and click again to go back. The clock can show 24-hour time, seconds and a timezone of your choice. The logo can use your own image URL. The notepad has an optional privacy cover that hides your notes, and inside it Tab indents and Shift + Tab outdents (press Esc first if you want Tab to move focus instead).
• Internet time. The clock and date can sync with a public time service. Turn this off in the clock options if you would rather use your device's time only.
• Look. Change the search box size, position and width, set your own wallpaper URL, and adjust its saturation. "Keep elements apart" stops things overlapping on small screens.

Saving and backups

• Search history. Off by default. Under the History tab you can log every search you send from the search box, and choose how long to keep them. Turning it off, clearing it, or shortening the duration deletes the logs straight away. History stays in this browser and is never included in Export.
• Settings stay in this browser. Use Export at the bottom of the settings menu to save them to a file, and Import to restore them on another device or browser. Reset returns everything to the defaults.
• Focus mode. Found under the Misc tab in the settings menu. It fades the page to black. Click or press any key to bring it back.
• Wipe Localstorage. Also under the Misc tab. Unlike Reset, which puts the defaults back, this deletes everything the page has stored in your browser and closes the tab, so the next visit starts fresh. Export first if you want a backup.
